Hi everyone

Soo excited to be sharing this news!laughing

So hubbie arrives in Auckland in February to start work and I will arrive in March with our 2 daughters.  He will be working in the CBD and we are looking at good surrounding suburbs with good high schools for the girls. We are looking for suburbs with approximately a 30 minute drive as I've seen comments that traffic can be quite hectic.  I have googled Panmure, Mt Wellington and also a few North Shore Suburbs.  Any suggestions or tips would be most welcome.  We would enjoy being near water, so that will be a bonus.

Thankslaughing

Hi Foxylady,

Thats wonderful news, congrats and enjoy the adventure that lies ahead!

They say all suburbs are really good, but me personally, I tend to favour the northshore. I did look around various areas, but the northshore has great little bays and beaches. I Commuted from Albany to the cbd for two years by bus and it was really good and effecient, although the commute was around 45 mins or so, I used it as a great time to catch up reading and facebooking or what ever.

Some really good schools too like Rangitoto College, West lake girls and long bay.

Please keep us posted!

Howdie and welcome. We booked an AirBnB for our first month in Auckland. Having to learn new roads, shops, suburbs and of course how to cope with Auckland drivers was challenging enough without having to worry about finding a house right off the bat.

The rental market is a bit crazy, and don't be shocked at the initial cost of moving either. But I am certain that you have done your homework.

I work in the CBD and we live St Heliers. My morning commute is 20-30 minutes depending on traffic and takes me to the city along Tamaki drive :-) St Heliers, Mission Bay, Kohimarama and Remuera are all great areas with good schools. But then I am biased since we live in the area.

Keep us posted on how your move goes!

Hugo

Going on two years and still enjoying the ride.

Yup, those are some lovely areas mentioned by Hugo. I also agree, first have a look around and see what suits you best.

Hey Hugo

I've looked at those areas you mentioned and they are really nice.  I also checked out the Airbnb and that might be an option for us as we will still need to await our container from SA. I see that some of the Airbnb also offers weekly as well as monthly discounts which is good to be aware.

Hi everyone

So just an update since my last post my 2 daughter's and I have landed safely in Auckland exactly a week ago and reunited with my hubbie. We stayed with my sister for a few days and have since moved into our house and chosen a suburb on the North Shore. We have done some grocery shopping today which was hugely exciting me. 😀 Got bank accounts sorted, got forms for VTNZ to do a conversion drivers licence, and got forms at the Post Office to apply for my IRD number. So that's on my to do list.

Keep well and chat soon.☺

Welcome to New Zealand! Enjoy all the excitement which is about to follow. There is a reason why there are so many South Africans on the North Shore, its really nice.

Hmmm, I wasnt aware that you could convert your license at VTNZ, thats interesting. We did ours at an AA office.

Congratulations, and welcome to your new life!

@Shaun, there are a couple of VTNZ offices where you can do international conversions.

Going on two years and still enjoying the ride.

Hi guys

Yes I was in Takapuna on Saturday and actually just went to go and ask at reception at the AA office and she showed me the VTNZ across the road that have forms and do the conversion.
